More Scoble, Facebook, and Marketing 2.0

August 14, 2007

Scoble received my video message through Facebook.

I actually found it really effective: not only did Scoble get my message, but a bunch of other people found the video, and some joined Scouta.

Which changes the question from “Is Facebook currently good for Marketing 2.0,” to “How do you effectively use Facebook for Marketing 2.0?”

It requires a bit more thought on my part.

Facebook, Marketing 2.0, and Filters

August 11, 2007

Robert Scoble has been talking about Facebook for the last few weeks. However, amongst my own thoughts about Facebook, this podcast by Jason Calacanis got me thinking a bit more: is Facebook a good networking/marketing tool, or is there too much information to be effective.

Now Scoble is an extreme case, because he has friended so many people in Facebook. By doing this Scoble does not filter his communication, which means that he either has to read every bit of correspondence he receives (email, Twitter, Technorati alerts, Facebook, etc.) or he could miss some very important information.

So I thought up an interesting experiment. I decided to record a video, especially for Scoble, and send it to him through Facebook. We’ll see if he responds. With 4574 friends in Facebook, it’ll be interesting to see if he gets the message.

Hectic

It’s been a very busy couple of weeks. At Scouta we launched a whole new look to the site, along with the Mac version of the Scouta Agent. The Agent has been in the pipe for months, but even the new look took a couple of weeks to sort out, and we still have a few pages we’re working on.

I’ve also been elected to the Australian Web Industry Association, which is an honour, and I hope to help the association ramp up its mind share in Australia. They’ve done an amazing job in the last year already, and I think the association can really make a huge difference by just keeping the momentum.

Also in the last week my daughter has come down with some strange sickness. She seems right now after I changed her diet to exclude fat and dairy. For a whole week she didn’t sleep a good night, waking for several hours complaining of a sore stomach. When asked where, she pointed to where her gallbladder is. So we hope it’s not serious.
