My mate Jon, who seems to be able to launch a new social site in minutes, has just announced News 2.0.
I love the way Jon works. He takes a concept, cuts it down to the bare bones (37 Signals would be jealous), and launches on a dime.
News 2.0 generates the latest news around the Australian Blogosphere every 30 minutes. It does this by monitoring weblog posts submitted to AustralianBlogs. It’s that simple.
In a conversation with Jon, it looks like a few more features are due. So it’ll be interesting to see how it goes.

Rich,
I just appreciate the good humour with which you listen to my ideas! Thanks for the great feedback and the ideas for enhancing news2.com.au – now I also have this other idea…
Cheers
Jon
Jon – well done on the new site. Why do most of the website urls you have redirect back to a buggerall.com.au domain?
Rich – One of your “News 2.0″ links in the post above is pointing to an invalid url.
Cheers – Clay
Thanks for the correction Clay. All fixed.
Rich
Hey Clay,
I had a special deal a little while ago for webhosting for a legacy domain name which I had (buggerall.com.au) and had not used so for ease of admin (and it was a shame to not use up the quotas) I decided to whack it all on one domain/webhost account. One set of FTP accounts to handle it all.
I have also been thinking that BuggerAll might have been an appropriate description for a great many of my projects
Might be a nice umbrella to bring in all the domestic projects under.
News2.0 was an idea that came only a few days before our last Perth blogger meetup (as discussed). I was actually working on another piece which I thought had better legs (maybe unveil@next meetup? heheh). But I figured that with gnoos about to dominate the local blogosphere search space, it would be a laugh to try and land a few right-hand leads (if you’re into the boxing vernacular a la ‘The Brass Monkey’) whilst at the same time achieving some traffic for the local blogs listed on AustralianBlogs.com.au.
Gnoos = “tell me what you’re looking for in the Australian blogosphere and I will find it for you”
News2.0 = “what’s the Australian blogosphere talking about today/yesterday/this week?”
I’m sure Ben and Michael are probably tweaking their offering as we blog. I’m looking forward to their launch – the ‘beest is slow, but the earth is patient’. (Rich, you have full copyright on that last News2.0 proverb at your next G’Day World podcast
