Mapping The Internet.

November 29, 2003

The Opte Project has created a few great maps of the internet. I’m looking forward to the extra features that are yet to come, like the “find yourself” tool.

Goodbye Comment Spam.

November 27, 2003

I finally got sick of having to keep a close eye on the comments in my blogs for spam today. I noticed that I’d missed some from a few months back, and figured it was about time I had a serious try at installing Jay Allen’s MT-Blacklist plugin. “A Movable Type plugin to eradicate comment and trackback spam”. Although it is still in beta, it is very nice, and very useful. Thanks Jay.

iPod Battery Life.

November 24, 2003

If you’re an iPod user, check out iPod: How to Get the Most Out of the Battery. Not rocket science, but worth keeping in mind.

Panther Upgrade.

November 23, 2003

I upgraded my PowerBook G4 to Panther a couple of days ago. Expose, threaded email, HTTPS through firewalls, and better spam filtering all make it worthwhile from my point of view.

For those of you keen to know the finer details, check out Ken Bereskin’s “Panther” Weblog.

I’m thinking of taking up flying, so that when I move to Florida, to be near Disney World, I can park my 707 at my front door like John Travolta.

Matrix Revolutions Review Reloaded.

November 15, 2003

Thanks to everyone for your comments in my Matrix Revolutions Review. There are some fantastic insights into meanings and some great little hints on things I missed, like the anagram of Mobil at the train station.

Mootrix Video.

November 13, 2003

I linked to the Mootrix comic strip a few months ago. Today I was shown the Mootrix video clip, taken from Kung Pow : Enter the Fist. You can find the video at this link. Sorry, it’s a .asf file, and not mpeg. Let me know if there is a link to a better format.

Worth a look for Matrix or cow fans.

Going Wiki.

November 10, 2003

Wikitravel looks like it’ll be great resource for everyone who travels.

For those not across the wiki phenomenon yet, you can find the definition in the Wikipedia.

Battle Of The Search Engine.

November 10, 2003

Could Google’s Deskbar be a preemptive strike against Microsoft?

Consider this. Microsoft tries to “merge” with Google, USA Today. Google declines. Microsoft then looks elsewhere for a search engine company, Slashdot.

It’s obvious that Microsoft will integrate search into the next OS version, Longhorn. It has been stated by the company themselves. So what better for the search engine leader to do, than beat Microsoft to the punch.

Going Back To Wireless.

November 9, 2003

Richard and Will came over today to finish putting up the wireless dish on the roof of my house. 6 meters above the apex of the roof, with Will up a ladder checking line of site to a building in the city. It’s always an interesting time.

So it appears that we’ve got the hardware set up, next Rich is configuring the Linux box. We’ll then climb into the roof and wire up the Apple Airport. Hopefully sometime this week.
